Hello,
my name is Mike Gagne, originally from Augusta I have been living in France since 1977.
In 2005 my wife Corinne, my son Jesse and I came to Maine on vacation, I wanted Jesse (11) to see where I was born and had past part of my life.
I decided to bring them to Old Town to visit, it was on a Sunday,so we crossed the Penobscot Indian Nation Bridge and right after the bridge a wooden teepee caught my eye.I knocked on the house door and Charles greeted us.I explained why we were in the area and where we came from, he asked us to step inside. He took us to a room where he had his computer and all sorts of pictures and military medals on the walls.I asked him about the medals and he told me his story, I explained to him afterwards that my Dad also did D-Day and I was in Vietnam in 1969,we chatted about that for a while, he told me about his Austrian wife who had passed away a few years back, I told him my Mom was from Paris and that my ancestor had arrived from France at St.Anne de Beaupré in 1644.Anyway,what I really wanted to get to was, I want to congratulate Charles for his Medal of Honor which was given to him by Nicholas Sarkosy and also thank him on behalf of my family for having been here when things were rough, all these young men who came to liberate Europe fighting for our freedom....not theirs.
Mike
